It’s a slide. Kids come down to these all the time. Bad things rarely happen, but only because they’re kids, right? Surely nothing bad will happen to a grown man David Vassegh.

During the Dodgers’ trip to Milwaukee, Vassegh, a reporter for the group, is looking to fulfill a dream he’s had for a long time – going down the indoor slide at American Family Field. It was a pretty standard dream. As a Bay Area resident, I’ve always wanted to go down the Coke bottle slide at Oracle Park. I’m sure if I ever had the chance to go down that slide at American Family Field or jump in the pool right over the middle right fence at Chase Field, I would do so in a heartbeat.

The thing is, you never expect the fulfillment of your dreams to take you to the hospital. Vassegh’s eyes widened and he was ecstatic as he stood atop Bernie Brewer’s Chalet. He had a blanket ready and all to gain top speed for his downhill ride. Oh, what a dangerous mistake, because when Vassegh plunged down the slide, screaming with excitement, the speed was too much to bear and Vassegh flew straight into the wall below, breaking his arm and six bones side. progress.

Dodgers broadcasters Joe Davis and Nomar Garciaparra were agitated. There are TV episodes that don’t have a great plot like the one we saw in the video above.

The real takeaway from all of this though should be Vassegh’s toughness. This man broke bones in multiple places, was laughed at relentlessly, and still managed to finish his job for the game. He didn’t ask for the day off, although he very likely would’ve been given a pass. He was a good sport, and a tough son of a gun who was willing to own up to his embarrassing misfortune and continue talking baseball. Even the players that Vassegh covers were impressed with his resilience. After the Dodgers went on to win the game 2-1, catcher Austin Barnes caught up with Vassegh and told him that the team won that game for him.

So, props to Vassegh. Clearly, he’s got the respect of everyone in that locker room. Even after breaking multiple bones on a slide, he can laugh at himself, express humility, and continue doing a stellar job on air. There’s no word on whether or not Vassegh will miss any time in order to properly recover, but either way, Vassegh has already earned respect around the league.

Even if he were to take the rest of the season off now, he’s already proven he can work through pain and continue putting smiles on people’s faces. Hats off to you, Vassegh! Maybe take the stairs next time.
