Deion Sanders always dresses well for prime time
Deion Sanders is famous for a lot of things. Football actor and baseball. Resuscitate the Jackson State Tigers and win a new gig coaching the Colorado Buffaloes. Making money is, in every sense of the word, nicknamed “Rush Hour”. (Though these days he only goes by Coach Prime.)
But Sanders’ most important contribution to the world of sports and style might be the following: “If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you play well. If you play well, they will pay a high price.” (He recently added “If they pay you well, you’ll live well” at the end.) If there was one sentence that would explain the absolute revolution in athletic style that has taken place over the past 40 years— from the players getting dressed to the players *dressing up — * that’s it.
That’s why Deion Sanders on the cover of our February issueand (along with inductees Allen Iverson and Derek Jeter) were members of the inaugural class of GQ Sports Style Hall of Fame—a new way for us to celebrate athletes whose influence extends far beyond competition.
