Delegates say buses full of children go to school in Maine


According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a bus carrying 31 elementary school students hit a car Monday morning. According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a bus carrying 31 elementary school students ended up in a car Monday morning in Naples.

The crash was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. on 302nd Street at Lake Region Convenience.

The delegate said the car driver had stopped to turn left to enter a convenience store when he was hit by a bus from behind.

The force of the collision caused the car to then hit an SUV lying in the store’s parking lot.

Deputies said the vehicle then hit a propane gas rack before slamming into the store causing significant damage to the building.

Delegates said no one, including the children on the bus, or the people inside the store, was injured.

Buses take children to Songo Locks and Crooked River elementary schools. School officials said the children were loaded onto another bus and taken to the school and parents were notified.

Delegates said the cause of the accident was still under investigation.
