Denton Public Library cancels ‘Rainbow Story Time’ event due to safety concerns – CBS Dallas/Fort Worth
DALLAS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – The Denton Public Library will not be hosting the popular Rainbow Story Time event this weekend due to safety concerns.
Library officials said the “alarming” number of disrespectful and harmful comments led them to their decision.
Originally, the event was scheduled to coincide with National Transgender Remembrance Day, which is held annually on November 20 to remember individuals who were murdered as a result of transphobia. It aims to draw attention to the violence trans people experience.
Officials believe the controversy was caused by a misunderstanding.

The incorrect show title led community members to believe that Story Time would teach children about gender identity, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
Library officials announced that these topics will not be taught and will instead provide a way for families to hear stories about self-acceptance, learning and friendship.
The library is working to reschedule the event at a later date.
