Did Terry Bradshaw break news about Kelce-Reid Super Bowl bump?

Hall of Fame quarterback and NFL analyst Terry Bradshaw may have accidentally broken some news about why the confrontation involving Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce and head coach Andy Reid in the second quarter of Super Bowl LVIII was an even bigger deal than thought.

“I felt bad for Andy because Andy had had hip surgery,” Bradshaw said about the situation during a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” as shared by Brandon Contes of Awful Announcing. “He had his game plan in his hand. And when Kelce went over, Kelce didn’t push him. Kelce went over and he accidentally bumped him. I don’t think he pushed him or anything. It was an accident, but it looked bad on television.”

Contes added he was “not sure whether Reid’s recent hip surgery was as widely known as Bradshaw made it seem.” A quick Internet search as of Friday morning appeared to confirm Contes’ belief.

According to Francesca Bacardi of Page Six, Reid said shortly after the Super Bowl LVIII win over the San Francisco 49ers that Kelce “tested that hip out” with what became a bump seen around the world. The three-time Super Bowl champion head coach who turns 66 years old in March told NBC Sports’ Peter King that same night that Kelce “came out of nowhere” and was “wound up so tight” after the pass-catcher wasn’t on the field when Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco lost a fumble in the red zone.

Kelce later expressed remorse for his actions, and Bradshaw noted he texted with Reid after the overtime encounter. While Bradshaw insisted that any drama related to the matter is “over” because Kansas City “won the football game,” some remain puzzled about the fact that the Chiefs reportedly may have blocked NFL Films from using mic’d up audio of the Kelce-Reid interaction for the post-Super Bowl edition of the “Inside the NFL” program.

It’s understandable that Kelce and Reid want to move on as reigning Super Bowl champions, but curiosity regarding what was or wasn’t said in the heat of the moment isn’t disappearing as springtime approaches.
