Dinkel’s Bakery closes after 100 years of famous German dish, paczki in Lakeview, Chicago

CHICAGO (WLS) – Dinkel’s Bakery will close on Saturday after 100 years of business in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood.

The bakery has been a regional institution and go-to for generations of Chicago families. The bakery is famous for its stollen, a bread consisting of nuts, spices, and dried fruit or candy, and specializes in other savory and sweet German baked goods, including breads. It also gives out thousands of paczki every year.

Norm Dinkel, the president of the sweets shop, told ABC7 that it was time for him to turn to the next page in his life. In addition, he plans to auction the outdoor sign and will donate 50% of the amount to charity.
