German actor Malick Bauer will play the lead role of the same name Sam – A Saxon IDisney+’s new German-language original series.
Drama series, from the creators Deutschland 89, based on the true story of Samuel Meffire, East Germany’s first black policeman. Raised as an outsider, Sam was forced to join the police force after the murder of his father and became, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, an icon of modern society in post-unification Germany. 1990. But just a few years later, Sam was behind bars on his own, as an enemy of the state.
Deutschland 89 producer Jörg Winger is producing the series through his Big Window Productions, alongside Tyron Ricketts for Panthertainment.
Co-starring Bauer in the seven-episode miniseries is Tyron Ricketts, who plays Sam’s mentor Alex, Svenja Jung, Luise von Finckh, Nyamandi Adrian, Paula Essam, Ivy Quainoo, Thorsten Merten, Martin Brambach, Aristo Luis and Daniel Klare.

The 1990s. Sam’s story is touching, captivating, unfathomable and hopeful. It is set up locally but is globally conceivable. And it gives us an insight into a black German’s quest for identity. “
The seven Disney+ original miniseries films began filming in Germany in January and are scheduled to shoot until the end of May under lead director Soleen Yusef and director Sarah Blasskiewitz.
Sam – A Saxon is part of Disney+’s list of non-English originals produced outside of Europe, part of streamers’ push into the European market. Other Disney+ Europe Originals include the French miniseries Oussekine, Italy’s Stupid Angels and Dutch sports documentaries Feyenoord Rotterdam.
