Distributor BYD to launch mobile electric vehicle charging service in 2023
BYD local distributor EVDirect is launching a new business that will rescue electric cars that have run out of power.
Call EV2Uthe company will have a fleet of trucks that can be deployed to deliver a small amount of charge to a flat EV — enough to put it on a charger.
EVDirect CEO Luke Todd announced the new venture in a comment on one LinkedIn parcel.

“We will roll out the EV2U mobile charger nationwide by 2023 to reduce range worries and improve the overall usability of electric vehicles.”
While specifics have yet to be released, Mr. Todd said auto expert More information will be announced sometime mid-year – note that it will be a busy year for EVDirect’s core business as the BYD brand grows locally.
“That’s something I’ve been studying for a few years, because I’ve seen different approaches right across China and how to manage some of the anxiety and depression in this area,” said Todd.
“I have seen a lot of ideas and I know there is a solution and we have put together some technologies that allow very reasonable costs and fast recharges.
“We plan to roll it out nationwide and involve local mechanics… [as] their first step in EV acceleration.”
He says it could draw local mechanics into the EV ecosystem, suggesting that a mechanic might have a portable charger available to them.
The aim is to provide a “community service,” providing a small amount of range to electric vehicle users enough to get them to the charger. Mr. Todd says it will also not be limited to BYD holders.
“It won’t get you hundreds of kilometers… It’s more targeted at those weird cases where you can forget and get down to zero or equally important, the emergency aspect if someone happens to be. incident on the bridge or on a major lifeline,” he said.
While our nation’s auto clubs like RACV provide breakdown services, Todd says the EV2U is not intended to be a rival.
“Our ambition is not to go head to head with NRMA or RACV, they are still a very valuable part of the automotive ecosystem, it’s our approach to building the system,” said Todd. Eco-enabled electric vehicles,” said Todd.
“It shouldn’t be too difficult to offer this recharge as it is just part of a shared ecosystem to get more electric vehicles on the road.”
NRMA introduced portable EV chargers on two of its vehicles, initially Wollongong and ACT patrol. It plans to expand the service across New South Wales, focusing on areas with higher rates of call and EV usage.
These 9.6kW power output from the onboard 4.8kWh lithium-ion battery, which NRMA says is enough to add about 1km of range to a vehicle every two minutes.
The organization first tested the service in 2011, when electric vehicles were less popular but range anxiety was said to be even stronger.
