Donnell Rochester’s Family Ask for an Answer

Unfortunately, another family is demanding justice after the life of their loved one was taken by law enforcement. According to WBALTV11, 18-year-old Donnell Rochester, from Baltimore, was fatally shot by police on February 19, and the details surrounding his death are disturbing. Reports suggest the fatal incident occurred when police officers patrolling northeast Baltimore found a car registered to Donnell.

During the incident, officers approached the vehicle and exited their vehicle to attempt to stop Donnell due to an open warrant against him in connection with an armed robbery. While police body camera footage shows officers firing at the vehicle, it’s unclear if Donnell was driving towards police, as they claim. In addition, it is not clear what happened before the officers discharged their weapons.

Donnell’s family doesn’t buy the officer’s account of what happened and wants them to be held accountable. Donnell’s aunt Markai Jackson spoke out about her nephew’s passing, saying: “He should have been here, and that’s not fair.” His cousin, Shanika Jackson, added, “It’s innocent until you’re proven guilty. Do not forget that. So you can’t even accuse him of anything because he hasn’t even been proven guilty of anything. He shouldn’t have died like that, period. ”

The family staged protests outside the Baltimore police headquarters. Yesterday, attendees chanted, “No justice, no peace.” The family went back outside today to protest and live-stream the event on Instagram. Currently, the two officers involved in the shooting, Officer Robert Mauri and Officer Connor Murray, have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Maryland Attorney General’s Office’s Independent Investigations Division is seeking to investigate the incident in accordance with state law.

Baltimore Police released a statement, saying, “The Baltimore Police Department is aware of the protest scheduled for this morning at our headquarters and will continue to support the right of individuals to express themselves. love peacefully in Baltimore.”

No further information is available, as the investigation is still ongoing. But we’ll keep you guys updated as the story develops, Roomies!
