Dortmund 1 – 0 Chelsea
Karim Adeyemi’s brilliant goal for Borussia Dortmund meant Chelsea had to get through a 0-1 loss after the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.
Graham Potter’s side had more chances amid the frenetic atmosphere in Germany but Thiago Silva was disallowed for handball and Joao Felix hit the crossbar in a favorable position. Ademeyi’s solo run punished their previous extravagance after just an hour.
It’s cruel for Chelsea to look at their performance. After being trailed, they pressed for an equalizer and Kalidou Koulibaly was almost saved by Emre Can from his dangerous shot. But now they have to come back at Stamford Bridge to progress.
Last night’s loss means Chelsea have now won just once in nine matches since the start of the year and although Potter will be encouraged by some of the things he sees, this is further proof that this is a team that is still struggling. Do everything you can to not win.
