Dozens of people were killed in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia after Russian troops shelled the city overnight, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.

The army’s central command said on its Facebook page Sunday: “Overnight, the Russian occupiers brutally attacked residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.

“Information about the victims is being confirmed, but dozens of people have died or been injured.”

Earlier, city official Anatoliy Kurtev said at least 17 people were killed in an overnight bombardment.

“As a result of an overnight missile attack on Zaporizhzhia, apartment buildings and roads in the city’s residential areas were damaged,” said local official Anatoliy Kurtev, city government secretary. , wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

“At this point, 17 people are known to have died.”

Russia is under growing pressure on the Ukrainian battlefield, where Ukrainian forces continue to push ahead with a counter-offensive that began in the Kharkiv region early last month.
