Draftees Reveal Russia’s Demented New Way to Cover Up Cannon Fodder Deaths
hundreds Russian military service allegedly fearing that they have been sent on a suicide mission by top military officials, who are planning to conceal their deaths through an innovative new plan: replace changed records to show they were part of a regiment that didn’t exist.
“They gave us to the 228th regiment – such a regiment does not exist,” one of the men told independent news agency Sota. “They want to send us to a hot spot tomorrow with machine guns [to go] against tanks, drones and mortars on minefields. Merely cannon fodder.”
Sota reported that they received an audio message recorded by several enlisted men, calling for help on behalf of 400 men from the Altai Republic. In it, they said they were sent to storm an area near Svatove in the Luhansk region of Ukraine.
“Help in any way you can. We were given medicine, [the opioid analgesic] Promedol, in case of serious injury,” the message said.
The men describe manipulation of their official paperwork that led to them disappearing without a trace.
“The colonels came here, I don’t know, they couldn’t find us. We were sent to the front, we were shelled.”
This move shows that Russian officials are hungry for some manpower after military analysts note The Ukrainian army has gained more ground on the Svatove-Kremenna line in recent days. Conscripts from Russia’s Tomsk region also publicly appealed to the governor in November for help with a “difficult situation” near Svatove.
As the Kremlin is currently preparing for a “large-scale war” against Ukraine, military officials seem eager to make the most of cannon fodder already on the battlefield. Independent new store agent reported Thursday that wounded soldiers were being brought back to the front lines without any formal approval from doctors.
“Soldiers with shrapnel in their limbs and bullets through their lungs are being brought back to the front,” the newspaper noted.
Amid concerns about a new full-scale nationwide mobilization, the State Duma’s defense committee is also pushing to involve more Russians in the war.
“We do not have a trained reserve force to wage a large-scale war, should NATO unleash it. One in ten has served in the military, and nine out of ten have not. What kind of reserves are they creating?” Viktor Soboliev, a member of the committee, told local media on Wednesday.
He said “100% of young people” must have specialized military training.
