Draymond Green defends stamp for Domantas Sabonis: ‘I have to set foot somewhere’ | NBA news

Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green said “I have to put my foot up somewhere” when asked about his being kicked out of the Sacramento Kings to win a stamp for Domantas Sabonis.

Green stomped on Sabonis’ chest after the Kings player wrapped his arm around Green’s leg during the fourth half of Monday night’s playoffs, a game the Kings won 114-106 to take a 2-0 lead.

Green was flagrantly fouled and automatically sent off, while Sabonis was called for a technical foul.

Green said ‘I guess grabbing the ankle is okay’ when asked about his ejection on Monday night

Speaking to the media, Green said: “My leg was grabbed. Second time in two nights that the referees just watched. [Green says Malik Monk grabbed his leg in front of the official in Game 1].

“I have to put my foot somewhere and I’m not the most flexible so it doesn’t stretch that far. I can just step that far and pull the leg away, so that’s it.

“The explanation is that I stomped my foot too hard,” Green said when asked what the referees had told him. It’s Monk’s last game so you’ll stop it…

“Jon Goble watched Monk hold my foot in the last game and he just let it go and Zach (Zarba) was clearly looking at my foot being held in this game and letting it go, so I guess grabbing the eye the ankle is fine.”

Sabonis said TNT: “We’re both fighting for our recovery. We fell on top of each other. Something happened. It was basketball. We had to move on to the next game.”

Fans in Sacramento shouted insults at Green, who provoked them by waving, putting hands to ears, calling for louder cheers and standing on chairs.

Green was dropped from the playoffs against the Memphis Grizzlies last season, while he was also suspended for one game in the 2016 NBA Finals after committing too many serious fouls during that season’s playoffs.

The 33-year-old has been named for six blatant fouls and 27 technical fouls in 147 career playoffs.
