Driving into a church, running with bumpers
CLEVELAND – A driver who crashed into a church on Cleveland’s East Side on Friday morning fled with the vehicle’s bumper and license plate and hid it behind a trash can, according to police.
Officers and firefighters responded to Wilson United Methodist Church, 9226 St. Clair, put a car in a building. According to an officer at the scene, the speedometer was stuck at 90 mph.

A witness told officers that the driver tried to pull the license plate off the rear bumper but couldn’t get it so he walked away with the bumper and hid it behind a trash can.

Police, perhaps guided by divine intervention, have located the bumper and fender behind the trash can.
The impact damaged the windows, the building and the perimeter fence of the church.
