Dual charging ports for GM EV, future Mercedes-AMG, Renault fuel cell concept: Car News Today

The Mercedes Vision AMG concept shows a glimpse of AMG’s all-electric performance car future, while the Renault Scénic Vision concept claims to cut carbon emissions while mixing in fuel cells. And can GM’s electric trucks have two charging ports? This and more, here at Green Car Report.

This morning, we reported on something GM hasn’t teased since the era of the original Chevy Volt concept: dual charging ports, here for fast charging electric truck. In a recent GM patent filing, it suggests a dual-port setup that could take full advantage of a dual-layer package like in the upcoming GMC Hummer EV or Chevrolet Silverado EV. Moreover, it can allow the electric truck to charge other electric vehicles during fast charging.

The Mercedes Vision AMG concept is a fast four-door EV that offers a glimpse into the future of AMG — both in design and in technology. We’ve seen more than a hint of the Mercedes EQXX concept lately, but packed into a performance car. AMG also verified that this will be the first production model on the new platform dedicated to the German performance brand.

The Renault Scénic Vision concept may borrow the name of the Euro consumer-focused engine that came out in the 1990s, but that’s all about the future inside — with a 16 kW hydrogen fuel cell range extender said to allow range en nearly 500 miles for a vehicle carrying a battery equivalent to that used in the base Nissan Leaf. Sustainability is the subject, and Renault argues that the engine combination helps cut the product’s carbon footprint significantly.
