ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis spoke to GamesIndustry.biz and said: “We’re off to a good start. There’s already been interest from exhibitors, industry players, the world. the media and certainly the fans. In the end, however, there were challenges that proved too great to overcome.”
In a statement to GameSpot, ReedPop also confirmed that digital rollouts scheduled around E3 will still take place; those include the Summer Game Festival and showcase Xbox and Bethesda. The company also said it will continue to work with ESA on future E3 events, indicating that although E3 2023 is canceled, this is not the end of the iconic industry event. E3 may reappear in the coming years.
ReedPop and ESA have announced the cancellation of E3 2023 after months of uncertainty surrounding the event. Major publishers such as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have said they will skip the event, and recently Ubisoft also said they will be pulling back to hold their own Ubisoft Forward presentation.
