Elon Musk says Twitter’s new multi-color verification is coming next week TechCrunch

After messing up In the first launch of Twitter’s “power for everyone” verification system, Elon Musk said the social network will be expected to roll out a new multi-color verification system next week.

Twitter’s owner said that under the scheme, companies would get a gold tick, government officials would get a gray tick — presumably similar to check mark “official” it’s currently testing with some featured accounts — and the blue check mark will be exclusive to individuals even if they’re not celebrities. That means the blue check mark will be used with old verified accounts and new Twitter account purchasers. Paid plan $8 per month.

Musk added that the company aims to manually validate all verifications before the new verification system goes live. It’s not clear what he means because Twitter Blue subscribers will get a blue check mark. Not only that, but Twitter workforce reduction will be under pressure to manually check every verification to avoid any impersonation or spam.

Musk further explained that individuals can have a second small logo for notes if they are a member of an organization. The organization must also verify that the individual represents them or works with them in some way. He added that the decision to apply a blue check mark to all individual accounts deemed to be due to a person’s popularity is a matter of subjectivity.

Earlier this month, Musk took a break Twitter Blue program revamped and said it will continue on November 29. This week, however, the Tesla CEO put the plan on hold until “There is a high degree of impersonation prevention.” Notably, this is the first time he’s talked about using multiple colors for verification.

He did not specify whether this new verification scheme will coincide with the rollout of the relaunch of Twitter Blue. It’s likely that this relaunch of the verification process is open to existing verified accounts, companies, and government officials — and non-paying subscribers — for the time being.

Twitter has taken another step to prevent spam and fake accounts as Twitter Blue has finally been relaunched. Last week, the company change its terms so that newly created accounts must wait 90 days from account creation before they can purchase a Twitter Blue subscription.

When Musk-led Twitter first rolled out its new verification program on November 9, multiple accounts started impersonating brands, athletes and celebrities. That caused Twitter to halt the project immediately. Now, he is taking every possible measure to avoid that chaos again.

Earlier today, Musk said that Twitter will provide all accounts suspended “general amnesty” starting next week based on the results of a poll he took a few days ago.
