When John first began his career in the ’70s, his style was inspired by the Americana movement and his love for musicians like The Band. While he usually wears denim suits, John says he would be happy to never see the fabric again. “I used to wear denim in the early ’70s, and now I absolutely hate denim,” he says. “I hate it – please cancel it.”

“I always tell him he wears suits that are boring! And I was right.”

But John loves a particular style that he can never give up: signature eyeglasses.

“I was born short-sighted, and all the glasses available in the UK are plain and lousy,” he said. “As soon as I arrived in the United States in 1970, my eyes were opened to a choice that was not at all simple.
