Emma D’Arcy’s Negroni Sbagliato (with Prosecco in it) Meme
One Innocent press clip advertising a prestigious fantasy movie about dragons brought us here.
“We” is me and now infamous boisson au choix of an Emma D’Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen above By HBO Dragon’s House. “This” is a cocktail bar tucked away on a cobblestone street, where I am sitting on a slightly uncomfortable stool. I am in a position directly opposite to the newest “it girl” of the spirits world, Negroni Sbagliato (with Prosecco in it). Confident and elusive, she has a maturity that shows she knows the dark, unknowable things, but that mystery is cleverly hidden behind the wide eyes that come with the glamor. new language begins. She gives you the feeling that she’s done this before, but not enough that she doesn’t feel fresh… like a still-wet painting.
We fit into our understood roles clearly: me, the passion she tries to speak to for this piece; she’s the newly requested muse of uncultured pub regulars everywhere. She is screen protector on every lesbian’s laptop, and I’m looking right at her. We both glistened with a glint of sweat. (Well, sparkling Negroni Sbagliato; I’m dripping like a drowned rat). It’s unreasonably hot in a season where both Game of Thrones spin-off and one Lord of the Rings prequel series are streaming simultaneously. You would think that some condensation and clear ice melt would wow this natural Italian beauty, but she’s still cool and attractive under my eyes.
She already knew what I wanted to ask, and she was content to let me feel uncomfortable until I had the courage to do so.
I took the less direct route – a real cancer to my core.
“Did you see that tape?”
She knows one of these: a gentle sit-down, staged between HotD’starring, D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke. Two volleyed answers to rather bland questions to promote a series that really don’t need any extra publicity. When Cooke brought up a reminder regarding D’Arcy’s favorite drink, their reply teased a concoction that has since kept Tumblr’s history in a merciless grip.
It was a friendly question that drew a breathless chuckle from Negroni Sbagliato’s thin mouth. The girl has. She found that funny. Unlike the older stars — Martinis, Aperol spritz — she’s not above laugh at myself or different memes that her existence was born recently. It just adds to the appeal of the drinks at her next-door restaurant.
My follow-up question: “Did you know that the gay community has added negroni / sbagliato / Prosco to the official list of identify pronouns? “She doesn’t, but she always consider yourself an ally. In fact, Negroni has only begun to test its own identity in recent years, having oscillated between the herbaceous juniper of its youth and the bitter citrus notes it often enjoys experimenting with. She landed somewhere in between: a taste-neutral, or rather taste-defying slice of cake with a sturdy and sturdy frame and delicious licorice at her core. It’s a combination that hints at decadent secrets, densely molded as you move through the foamy look she’s perfected for the camera.

Negroni credits D’Arcy, who turned out to be an internal friend of hers, for helping define her taste buds. She’s displeased with her newfound fame — and the fact that countless people have gathered to mention her, asking about how they’d gotten her into their no-frills cocktail bar. She said it wasn’t the attention that bothered her. “It’s a comparison with vodka sodas, whiskeys, and worst of all, Old Fashioneds” has her thanking her iced glasses. After all, she added, it’s impossible to be the drink of choice for a future Emmy winner, who is currently starring in a show about Dragon and Dynasty and poor quality wigsjust her own thing?
It was a serious question, but it was hidden behind a kitten-like smirk that hinted that she already knew the answer and was ready to toy with me. I am willing to let her. I was clearly superior in this battle of wits, but Negroni was gracious enough to silence me. Like many of the bombshells that have come before her — Cosmos, French 75, Queen’s Dubonnet — she is adept at the art of teasing, manipulating without letting anyone down. When she faced me directly, all sharp angles, geometry and blood colors, and gently asked me to stir her up – “My Campari started to settle down” – I froze. Is Negroni Sbagliato and Prosecco flirting with me?
She has a blue mood, slow dancelull me to be bolder in my exploration.
“Where do you think this virus obsession for you comes from?” I ask myself. “Of course it’s different from the video.” She chewed through the question as I gobbled up an unfortunate ice cube in my glass of water. “I’m not sure it has anything to do with me,” she concluded. “It’s interaction, reaction that my presence ignited that very viewable. When Emma brought up a simple black person, it was Olivia [Cooke]Their reactions motivate them to take more risks. That’s when ‘sbagliato’ appeared. “
What about prosecutors?
“Well, once you take Olivia, you have to play, right?” she smiles. “I think Emma was having a little fun with Olivia at the time. They always add to the prosecution, but they pause for a moment and deliver in an almost cheeky way. They’re friends of each other. They are just having a good time. “
How does Negroni feel when Olivia Cooke calls her “beautiful?”

“Well, obviously I’m proud,” she replied, as if I had just asked the dumbest question she would ever be asked in her life. “Thoroughbred is one of my favorite movies. And is there anything in the world better than her Manchester accent? “
No, there isn’t.
I half-heartedly hypothesized that D’Arcy might be trying to strike a brand ambassador deal with Campari following recently The New York Times interview, in which both D’Arcy and Cooke are asked about the viral video and Darcy jokes about teaming up with the classic liqueur. Negroni politely declined to comment on any endorsement partnership the two might have in the making — but we both know I’m simply stalling, trying to prolong it. This conversation is like a mouthful of salt water on a hot summer day.
Now or never. I must ask the question I used to give this interview to my editors, or there is a possibility that this is useless. But I worry about the illusion I’ve been quietly creating — that this is a date, that black people somehow find me interesting enough to create an attraction, that we’ll see each other again. after this professional exchange was over — carefully explained by her and somehow misunderstood by me. I take a deep breath.
“After all this, with the online fanbase, the press, and the backlash from bartenders on TikTok, do you think some people will be disappointed when they know you really like the dish? What?”
Negroni paused, looking at me with an unimpressed look that was more stinging than her derision. What she did next was shocking, but probably shouldn’t be.
She gently, quietly, got up from her position on the bar and walked out the door.
