End: Review for Chocobo GP

Chocobo GP

It’s been an exciting month for kart racing fans – with Chocobo GP out next week, and Mario Kart 8 DeluxeIntensive Courses will come later. Since Square Enix is the first release, of course the focus is on it right now. Prior to release, we’ve compiled some of the reviews so far.

Before we go into those, be sure to check out our Nintendo Life review, which we published earlier this week. We gave the Chocobo GP 8 out of 10 stars and said it was a nice surprise from Square Enix and one of the “slickest and most enjoyable kart racers” on Switch.

Right after that, now that we’ve covered our own review, here’s the rest of the review starting with VGC – who gave it 4 out of 5 stars:

“Chocobo GP is second only to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe when it comes to modern kart games. On the track, it delivers superbly voyeuristic kart gameplay and all at beautifully smooth frame rates.”

Siliconera gave the game a 7 out of 10 and said it was better than most other Mario Kart competitors:

“The Chocobo GP is priced better than most of its Mario Kart competitors, offering a rudimentary all-around experience that’s still essentially enjoyable most of the time. However, its weakness and disappointment – the end result. matches the influx of new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe soundtracks coming out – which will likely limit its audience.”

Destructoid not quite what I wanted, giving it 6.5 out of 10:

Chocobo GPa budget title of sorts, will never be a challenge Mario Kart, and it’s never needed. But if you’re looking for a viable racer to play on a side rife with old courses it’s a good choice; as long as you can overcome a few obstacles. Hopefully a flurry of patches, the possible eventual removal of the season pass system, and price cuts will make this bundle even more appealing. I would praise it if it did, but in the meantime, take it as a recommendation of caution. “

Australian Nintendo Website Vooks awards Square Enix karts 3 out of 5 stars and recommends trying the ‘Lite’ version of the game before starting for the full experience:

“Chocobo GP is a playable Kart racer. I wish I could say it’s fun. The attacks/obstacles are too punitive; there aren’t enough tracks to play over and over again. , awkward controls and some underrated songs IAP and ‘Prize Passes’ Story Mode delivers some funny moments with lots of FFs winking and nodding their heads in the most goofy ways, but completely It turned out to be an unpleasant experience. Try Chocobo GP Lite before spending money on this game.”

And Digital Downloaded gave the game 4.5 stars out of 5 – mention how some may even prefer it to the Mario Kart series:

“The extensive roster, lovely presentation, and quality kart racing mechanics will combine to give you something you might like more than Mario Kart. The latter could be a bigger and tighter racing experience. , but the Chocobo GP has a killer weapon. The sleeve makes all the difference: the Chocobo.”

Chocobo GP is coming to Nintendo Switch next week on March 10. Will you check it out at release or at least try the ‘Lite’ version of the game? Leave a comment below.
