Before England captain Joe Root was welcomed back to the Long Chamber of God with thunderous applause from all the MCC members and also from some of his teammates.
The 31-year-old completed 10,000 cricket test runs and also his 26th hundred trials to give England a 1-0 lead over Kiwi.
Several MCC members applauded Joe Root as he entered the Long Room. Followed by a warm hug from the captain Ben Stokes and other players like Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, and James Anderson.
As he climbed the stairs, Root was congratulated by more MCC members and from his support staff as he entered the locker room. Here is the video posted by England Cricket on Twitter:
Joe Root’s incredible 115* is arguably one of his best
Joe Root has been in sensational form for over a year and a half, scoring hundreds and doubling centuries just for fun.
But given the match situation and the fact that this was his first hundred games in the fourth inning of a test, this century is arguably the most special for him.
Although New Zealand’s batting fell apart in their second inning, the superb partnership of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell put them in a strong position to win the Test match.
England were only trailed 141 in their first half and so the 277 goal from the start was beyond their reach. Naturally, Root would play a major role and he did it to perfection.

Despite England being 69/4 at one point, Root kept his cool and built a vital 90’s partnership with the Stokes captain. At 159/5, Kiwi was considered the favorite as they eliminated Stokes.
However, Root made sure he was there until the end and, along with Ben Foakes, comfortably put him past the goal.
