Erin Overbey Says She Has Been Fired by the New Yorker After Complaining About Inequality

The New Yorkers The archive’s editor said she was fired after raising concerns about gender inequality at the journal and accusing the journal’s editor-in-chief of inserting errors into her articles.

Erin Overbey announced her dismissal in a Twitter thread on Wednesday. Her update comes less than a week after she announced that she had been placed in a “performance review” after she raised concerns about pay parity at the magazine. She also alleges that “factual flaws” the store used to partially justify the review were in fact inserted into her copy by David Remnick, New Yorkers Editor. At the time, a spokesperson for the magazine called Overbey’s allegations “absurd”.
