Let’s start with the benefits of facial oils. How can these products and formulations support our skin care goals?
While I’ve loved experimenting and trying out a bunch of new products, when it comes to my daily routine, I want to make sure what I regularly use is doing its job. Part of the fun when it comes to oil benefits is the long list. As Wang shares, because face oils use targeted formulations, you can mix and match to suit your unique skin type and concerns. Some of the key benefits of facial oils include:

Based on the above, the ability of face oils to address specific skin problems varies according to the type of oil you use. Wang shares a few examples: “Something like Jojoba OIl is very similar to the oil your skin naturally produces, so it can be very good at helping to achieve the skin barrier balance while the Avocados are super hydrating and plumping and Rosemary Leaf Oil can help brighten skin. . “

What is the best oil for facial skin?
I have good news for those of you who are hesitant to start your facial oil routine. According to Wang, all skin types can benefit from facial oils. The trick is simply to choose oils that are “designed to target your individual concerns”. As I mentioned before, and as Wang was quick to address, the misconception that oily skin types should stay away from face oils is exactly that—wrong. “There are a lot of oils that really help the skin achieve balance,” notes Wang. Otherwise, your skin will compensate and overproduce oil.
How are the benefits of a facial oil different from a moisturizer? Can you use both in the same routine?
If you love your moisturizer as much as I do (here’s my pick), it’s hard to imagine how the breakup would go. Thankfully, you don’t have to, because as Wang confirmed, moisturizers and facial oils can both be part of your skin care routine. “Moisturizers are usually water-based and provide some great moisturizing benefits to the skin while oils are great for locking in moisture and targeting treatment,” says the beauty brand founder.
You can also feel comfortable having flexibility in how you use the oils and where they should be in your skin care routine. Wang likes to apply Karuna’s Illuminate Face Oil first to exfoliate and help her skin fully absorb her moisturizer. “Since skin needs both water AND oil to thrive, incorporating the two into your routine can do wonders for your skin.”
How often should we use face oil?
While we all love a black and white answer when it comes to understanding how often we should use products in our skincare routine, the results are often nuanced. And according to Wang, it depends on your skin’s needs. However, she asserts that “most are suitable for daily use as part of a morning or evening routine.” Moreover, if your skin reacts well to the product, you can safely apply the product during the day and at night.
Wang is quick to offer a reminder: “Remember it’s all about assessing what your skin needs and combining products that will benefit you the most.” Like I said, experimentation can sometimes be the most fun part of developing your skincare routine — and it offers plenty of opportunities to learn.
