Experts predict a ‘two-sided’ winter

Although warm and mild temperatures last through most of autumn, the wrath of winter is likely to come soon, experts say. But frigid temperatures are not expected to last.

As The Weather Network reports, Canadians should be prepared for colder-than-usual temperatures across most of the country in December.

However, after the last cold spell until 2022, temperatures are expected to fluctuate.

Meteorologist Doug Gillham writes in a report for The Weather Network: “We predict that as January and February move into the winter, there will be a break with mild weather, particularly from southern Ontario to Newfoundland. and Labrador.

For the third year in a row, Canada’s winter weather is expected to be largely influenced by a large-scale climate model known as La Nina – which correlates with cooler-than-normal water surface temperatures in central and eastern equatorial Pacific.

But La Nina isn’t the only weather phenomenon predicted to cause the Old Man Winter to rampage. Add in the partial mix of the polar vortex, which the Weather Network is expected to lay over northern Canada, blowing a significant amount of arctic air southward in December that will be cool.

As we move into January and February, La Nina is expected to bring cold and active winter weather across Western Canada, while shifting milder and stormy conditions from the Great Five. Lake to Atlantic Canada.

However, The Weather Network notes that winter weather in the west can sometimes shift eastward, to an area stretching from the Prairies east to Quebec, resulting in milder weather in British Columbia and Alberta. .

As a result, The Weather Network says Canadians will face a “double winter” – one that will “have prolonged severe winters and prolonged mild weather that leaves you wondering ” what happened to winter?”
