Explosion kills 3 sailors on Indian navy ship docked in Mumbai
NEW DELHI – India’s defense ministry says an explosion aboard a navy ship has killed three sailors.
It was not immediately clear whether others were injured or what caused Tuesday’s explosion. The ministry said the crew aboard the INS Ranvir acted quickly to bring the situation under control and no major damage has been reported so far.
The explosion happened in a compartment inside the ship while it was at the Navy Yard west of Mumbai. An investigative panel has been formed to investigate what happened.
The Ranvir has been deployed on the west coast since November and is expected to return to its home port in eastern India shortly.
