F1 2021 – Review – GameRev

If you want to find the first racing game, you have to travel back 48 years to Atari’s space race. For the past 48 years, the game has given racing fans an experience closer to reality than ever before, and now in 2021 we may have the closest experience. F1 2021 is Codemaster’s latest addition to their long line of Formula 1 titles, only this time they’re flying under the banner of gaming giant EA it feels similar to previous versions but there are some major gameplay changes and some new modes in the mix that are taken as a clear indication of the Internet from the new owners of the title. Now there are more ways than ever to immerse you in the action, which will get you back in the game as fast as the cars on the track.

Of the many different modes shown in F1 2021, the one seen with the most hype is Braking Point, a new story mode in which you follow rookie driver Aiden Jackson in battle with rival Devon. Butler, while also trying to compete with veteran Casper Akkerman. The story is unfolded through a mix of cutscenes and situational gameplay, which could be nursing home a tire punctured a hole, regaining position after falling back in a race or pushing. onto the podium after finding speed at the last minute. The balance between gameplay and cutscenes is just right, never feeling too far away from the action or wanting more footage, and there are some clever plot twists thrown into the mix. A really engaging story. The story takes some time to begin and when the plot climaxes, it ends very quickly, but this still leaves the door open for the story to evolve in later versions. Braking Point plays out very similarly to FIFA’s Journey, and is a clear nod to the expertise and depth that EA has brought to the Codemasters franchise.

As with Braking Point, there are many features of single player mode to play. My Team is back from its inception in game 2020, a mode where you can design, develop and drive your own F1 team. Every choice from driver, engine supplier and second driver is yours and every decision comes with sacrifices from others, do you choose a more experienced driver with sacrifice of less powerful or more durable engines? Do you get a sponsor with a lower weekly payout but a much more lucrative seasonal bonus? Every decision has weight behind it and allows you to experience glimpses of the headaches f1 bosses have to deal with on a daily basis. There are more decisions to be made, more freedom with research and development, and more customization to expand on last year’s version and keep things different. Career mode arrives as usual, this time with more options for driving, crafting your own path with your custom driver, or taking on the season with any of the above drivers. net, win the title with Max Verstappen or score those precious first points with George Russell. Now there’s also the option of a 2-player career mode, where you and a friend can lead each other to victory for the same team or compete for titles as rivals. or for a more competitive background, you can enter ranked races and tournaments, and even participate in qualifying tournaments for E sports. Although a lot of the singleplayer options are the same. with previous versions but the extra features and options that Codemasters added makes for more replayability and doesn’t make any feature stale or hastily carried over from the previous title there.

Gameplay on F1 2021 is much sharper and more realistic. F1 2020 racing has always felt like a knife, with its uncompromising braking and handling, but 2021 feels like a new game. The brakes are surprisingly responsive and much more responsive than previous versions, allowing you to brake multiple times after turning and have a wider chance of overtaking. The steering is lighter and more responsive, If you don’t catch the right corner the game will be much more forgiving with the adjustments you can make, there will be days burying your head in the gravel if you don’t have entry perfect inch.

That doesn’t mean the game has gotten any easier, though, and Codemasters made a few additional tweaks to bring this dose of harsh reality to life. F1 2021 has gone to great lengths to make the track and environment more lively, the curbs raised and have a much bigger impact on the balance and steering of the cars now, before you can. gliding over the curb without much impact now that if you get too far from a ball it feels like you are being deflected by a destroying ball. Crossing the runway off the limit or gravel also has a much greater effect on driving, you will find yourself turning much easier if you go too far out of bounds. After getting used to it for a while, I like the gameplay on this version more, it feels more forgiving when it comes to fixing minor bugs, but it will punish you for trying to take a shortcut over the curb or push the car over. beyond its limits, it feels much more realistic and less simulated than previous versions. Like all versions before F1 2021 supports different racing wheels and from my use of the wheel I can safely say that it feels great, the movements are responsive and the composition is good. Buttons for car controls and well-calculated notifications allow for ease of use, another positive sign for core racing fans.

F1 2021 is the Codemasters’ first adventure into a next-gen game, and they’ve found all the stops for it. F1 games have always been one of the best graphically but this year they really took it to the next level, the cars are captured in stunning detail, especially when they showing signs of scratches and minor damage, the tracks too look great and are much more dynamic. If a driver ahead of you hits some dirt or gravel, you’ll soon be rushing through a cloud of dust and when a collision occurs there will be more debris and a more subtle image with flying dust and carbon fiber; Driving in the rain looks great too, the jet of water from the car looks very realistic with the water droplets continuously dripping down the screen. They’ve also overhauled the sound, making it the closest attempt to real life I’ve seen, the extra squeak of the turbocharger during acceleration produces a much richer sound than just a hum. engine and it delivers absolutely everything to give the game a very premium feel, all of which is supported at 4k 60 + fps on the next-gen console. The new generation of consoles and new lines of PC graphics cards have raised the bar for judging the look and feel of games by leaps and bounds, and F1 2021 brings the flag back to the look and feel of a next-gen title.

In their latest edition to the long-running series, Codemasters has made it clear that it’s not about reinventing the wheel but improving it, and in that regard, they’ve knocked it out of the park. Braking Point and the improvements to Career & My Team modes add a lot of depth to the single-player options available, and the gameplay tweaks they’ve made really help improve immersion and flow. flow of the game, and these when combined with some stunning visual editing add a sense of detail and completeness to the game. Some might say that F1 games have had a bit of a slump in recent years, but I am confident that F1 2021 will be looked back on as one of the classic racing titles.
