Falcons sign veteran LB to one-year contract

ONE Bud Dupree The Steelers reunion won’t take place this year. The veteran passer is set to join the Falcons on a one-year contract instead, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweet that the contract has a maximum value of $5 million.

The 30-year-old joins the Titans in 2021 with high expectations being made in Pittsburgh. However, he failed to meet them and experienced only two ineffective campaigns in Nashville. Dupree is one of the veterans the Titans have move on from this seasonand he’s spent the past few weeks weighing his options as he seeks to rebuild his value.

That process includes a visit with Steelers, something that led to the belief that a deal to bring him back to Pittsburgh might be imminent. It was with the Steelers that Dupree spent the first six years of his career, a period that included his 11.5-bag campaign in 2019. However, injury was one of the reasons why he was he can’t repeat that success in Tennessee, and it comes as little surprise that he’s signing a deal that proves it’s worth much less than the five-year, $82 million deal he He was last achieved when he was a free agent.

Pittsburgh remains a strong contender for Dupree, Schefter colleague Jeremy Fowler tweet. However, it was the latter’s insistence on a one-year (rather than two-year) pact that led him to walk away. As such, he represents the latest significant addition to the Falcons’ defense, a team that is busy on both the free-agent and commercial fronts in targeting upgrades on that side of the ball. .

That already includes the big secure signing Jessie Bates and more recently the trade that allows them to get the corner penalty Jeff Okudah from the lion. Those deals will affect the Falcons’ rankings, but Dupree will find a way to help the team overcome fever, a significant weakness in recent years. Atlanta recorded 21 layoffs last season, the second-lowest number in the league. Dupree’s form in Tennessee suggests he won’t make a huge impact on that total, but he will bring a notable defensive presence to a new style of defense.

Atlanta entered Friday with a little more than $10.3 million in cap space, a number that should drop dramatically with the deal now in place. Even if it’s the last notable game on the free agent front, the team will still take a significant step forward defensively, especially in 2023. Meanwhile, Dupree will look to organize host a healthy campaign for the first time since 2019 and earn yourself a new deal the next season in the process.
