Family lawyer says the death toll at Astroworld Festival is now 10 after the 9-year-old boy’s death
The boy, identified by his family as Ezra Blount, has been placed in a medically induced coma in an attempt to repair brain, liver and kidney injuries, according to a statement from Crump.
“The Blount family is deeply saddened tonight at the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son. This was not the result of taking their son to a concert, it should have been. A joyful celebration Ezra’s death is utterly heartbreaking. We are committed to seeking answers and justice for the Blount family. But tonight we stand in solidarity with the family, in our grief and prayers. vows,” the statement from Crump said.
Bernon Blount previously told CNN that his nephew was in Houston, Texas, to see “his favorite artist” and attend a concert with his father, Treston Blount.
“When my son went to the concert, he had my nephew on his shoulder,” Blount said. “All the people were pushed in and he couldn’t breathe so he eventually passed out from the pressure on his body. And when he lost consciousness, Ezra fell off his shoulder and into the crowd.”
When Bernon’s son arrived, Ezra was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital as a John Doe.
“They don’t know anything about him, his name or anything because he’s separated from my son,” Bernon said.
Blount said Ezra “had a cardiac arrest that damaged his heart.” Blount said the boy also suffered liver damage, liver and brain swelling. CNN was previously unable to independently confirm Ezra’s medical condition with the hospital.
The family “was devastated because it was supposed to be a father and son outing for them to bond and it turned into something terrible and tragic,” Blount said.
