FBI searched and found another secret file at Pence’s home

A Pence spokesman said the FBI recovered one more government page with classified signs during a consensus search Friday of former Vice President Mike Pence’s mansion in Indianapolis, after the documents Secret was discovered at his home last month.

The search, confirmed earlier in the day by a Justice Department official, comes after Pence’s attorney, Greg Jacobs, notified the National Archives in a Jan. discovery of files marked confidential. The files were then turned over to the FBI.

“Pence and his legal team have cooperated fully with the appropriate authorities,” said his spokesman Devin O’Malley.

In addition to locating a page marked classified, the FBI recovered “six additional pages with no such markup that the vice president’s attorneys did not detect during the initial review,” he added. .

Neither Pence nor his wife were home during the search, but a member of his legal team was present and the Justice Department had full access to the home.

The search of Pence’s home comes as former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden face investigations by two special advisers over the keeping of classified records.

Special counsel Jack Smith is investigating whether Trump or his associates obstructed the Justice Department’s investigation into his keeping of thousands of government records, several hundred of which were flagged as classified. , after he left the White House in January 2021.

The FBI conducted a court-approved search of Trump’s Florida property on August 8, where it collected about 13,000 records, about 100 of which contained classified markings.

Separately, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Special Counsel Robert Hur in January, after Biden’s legal team revealed it had discovered classified documents in November at the Center for Foreign Affairs. and Penn Biden Global Engagement, a University of Pennsylvania consulting organization. Biden had an office there after he served as vice president under Barack Obama and before his presidential election.

Since then, additional records were also found at Biden’s mansion in Wilmington.

A third search of Biden’s Delaware beach home earlier this month did not find any additional documents.
