Authorities in Ohio are racing against time to rescue a 5-month-old baby who went missing nearly three days after she and her twin were abducted late Monday.
Kyair and Kason Thomas were in the car their mother was using to deliver to DoorDash when the car was stolen after she ran into a pizza restaurant. Kyair has been found abandoned in the car seat in the bone-chilling cold the next morning in the parking lot of Dayton International Airport, but Kason was still missing.
The fact that the alleged kidnapper had returned one baby but kept the other has alarmed the police.
“That’s a troubling aspect of this case. [I’m] Confused as to why this is so,” Columbus Deputy Director Smith Weir said earlier this week.
The desperate search for Kason – currently involved by the FBI and five surrounding states – is ongoing in tandem with the police’s manhunt for the main suspect in the kidnapping, identified as 24-year-old Nalah Jackson .
Police announced the kidnapping charge against her on Wednesday.
“You can bring him back to any safe location. Fire department, hospital, shopping mall, any public place where someone will find a baby. We are begging you. Please give Kason back,” Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant pleaded at a news conference Wednesday.
The twins’ mother, Wilhelmina Barnett, also publicly pleaded with the suspect to return her son.
“I’m not mad at you, I know you have a problem and are mentally ill,” Barnett said Wednesday, according to The Columbus Dispatch. “Bring him home. I just want my baby.”
While most other families were busy doing their last-minute Christmas shopping ahead of the holiday this weekend, Barnett and other family members were conducting their own search for Kason when a seasonal storm Danger comes.
The children’s father, Lachez Thomas, told Send he and other family members scoured shopping malls and residential areas in Dayton in hopes of finding Kason.
“It is indescribable – there are no words to describe it,” he said.
