Fed announces $250 million funding for home heating program

The federal government has announced a $250 million grant program to help Canadians stop heating their homes with oil and switch to electric heat pumps.

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser told reporters in Stellarton, NS, today that the Oil to Heat Pump Affordable Grant will provide up to $5,000 for low and middle income homeowners. jar.

Fraser said the money will cover costs such as heat pump installation, electrical upgrades needed for new equipment, and removal of oil tanks.

The minister said eligible homeowners will be able to combine the new subsidy with existing federal and provincial programs to assist with home heating.

Fraser said the grant will be made available early in the new year.

He said the amount announced today is in addition to the $250 million envelope in four-year federal funding announced in September to assist people with home heating costs.
