Feds try to avoid supply chain problems ahead of truck vaccine mandate deadline
OTTAWA – Canada’s international trade minister said the federal government is working to ensure the supply chain is secure as the vaccine ban goes into effect.
Evan Solomon asked Mary Ng on CTV’s Power Play Wednesday whether Canadians should expect a supply shortage on Saturday when that order goes into effect.
“No, not all,” Ng replied.
Critics of the vaccine rule for trucks traveling from the United States into Canada say it will bypass trucks and burden Canada’s supply chains.
Unvaccinated Canadian truckers will be able to return to Canada but will have to quarantine for 14 days. Unvaccinated American truckers will be barred from entering the country.
The Canadian Trucker Alliance estimates the mandate could result in the loss of between 12,000 and 16,000 truckers at the border.
When asked if Canada has more truckers ready to hit the road, she said “we’re working with the industry” and officials “are adopting the full government approach.”
