Ferrari previews racing car 296 GT3 without electric support


Ferrari gave us our first look at its next-generation GT3 racer based on the 296 GTB plug-in hybrid road car (PHEV).

Called 296 GT3This racer will be provided by a six-cylinder engine with unspecified output power. The engine will comply with GT3 specifications but will omit hybrid electric components used on the road 296 GTB.

Prancing Horse has confirmed the 296 GT3 has been assembled at sports car giant Oreca’s plant in Signes, France, and says racetrack testing will begin “in the coming months”. The driver is now expected to make his racing debut in 2023.

Car manufacturer Maranello has a history with high-performance V6 engines dating back to the 1960s, of which Dino is best known. It has been using the turbo V6 hybrid architecture on all of its Formula 1 cars since 2014.

Now, Ferrari has revealed two early sketches of the upcoming 296 GT3 with typical racing aerodynamic additions and a low profile. It’s clear that it’s still relevant and inspired by the 296 GTB road car.

At the front there is an extremely low front splitter with front tow hooks, multiple bonnets and active front wheel arch vents. There is also a very small Prancing Horse badge that can be seen on the front of the bonnet.

Surrounded by side vents and unusually large wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero racing tires. A large rear spoiler can also be seen, at its highest point seemingly higher than the roof.

There’s no clear view of the rear of the 296 GT3 but a glimpse of the large rear diffuser can be seen in the side render.

Currently, Ferrari remains tight-lipped about the details of the 296 GT3 driver.

Ferrari says the 296 GT3 driver retains a connection to the 1963 250 Le Mans (LM) driver that the road 296 GTB is said to have.

The 1963 Ferrari 250 LM enjoyed many successes during its existence, including the 1965 Le Mans 24 Hours, which was the Horse’s last overall victory in this particular race.

This new 296 GT3 racer is also said to build on the legacy of the 488 GT3, in both standard configuration and the 2020 EVO, which has racked up 107 titles to date.

The original 488 GT3 made its debut in 2016 at the Australian GT Championship in Melbourne, and the updated 488 GT3 Evo 2020 was announced in 2020 and has improved on aerodynamics, dynamics, and ergonomics. , safety and reliability of riders.

As for other upcoming similar GT3 models, Ford is currently working on it Mustang GT3 will launch in 2024 and possibly based on the next-gen model, and Toyota is also working on a new GT3 racer, as previewed with GR GT3 concept, to replace the old Lexus RC F GT3.

The off-road Ferrari 296 GTB starts at $568,300 before options and on-road costs in Australia. Its PHEV drive system generates a total system power of 610kW.

This powertrain includes a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, an electric motor and a 7.5kWh battery pack. This is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and power is sent only to the rear wheels.

According to Ferrari, the 296 GTB road car is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds, reaching 200km/h in 7.3 seconds and reaching a top speed of over 300km/h.
