Finnish musician captured a close-up dance shot with married Finns Prime Minister Sanna Marin has publicly denied having an emotional relationship with the leader.
Olavi Uusivirta made the announcement on Instagram on Friday, saying the two were just friends and writing in Finnish that “nothing inappropriate happened.” Fin, 28, said he would not comment further on the matter.
“There has been much speculation in the public about the quality of my relationship with Prime Minister Sanna Marin,” wrote Uusivirta. “Honestly, all I can say is this: we’re friends and nothing inappropriate happened.”
A video of the duo appeared online on Friday, showing Marine, 36 years old, was dancing close to Uusivirta when she beamed to the music playing in the background. At one point, Uusivirta seemed to whisper something to the leader or, as some Finnish media have suggested, kiss her.
The clip clearly captures the scene of Marin with Uusivirta even though it was secretly filmed in a dark nightclub, just over 1 minute long. This is the latest video to emerge in recent weeks showing Marin enjoying the Helsinki nightlife alongside celebrities in the Nordic country.
These videos prompted part of Marin’s constituents to pressure the leader, now sometimes dubbed “Party Chairman”, to take a drug test on Friday. The leader said she did it as an act of goodwill towards her detractors.
“I didn’t do anything illegal,” said Marin in Finnish, BBC reported. “Even in my teenage years, I didn’t use any drugs.”
In support of Marin, hundreds of Finnish women have started posting videos of themselves dancing and partying on social media using the hashtag #solidaritywithsanna.
Although Marin has denied claims that she used drugs at the nightclub, she has not gone public about her relationship with Uusivirta – who posted a picture of herself with Marin on Instagram last week. before but deleted it on Saturday.
