Fire destroys historic Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in south suburban Beecher during annual Oktoberfest



BEECHER, Ailing. (WLS) — A fireplace destroyed a historic church in south suburban Beecher Sunday.

Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church burned whereas members have been having fun with an Oktoberfest celebration within the car parking zone.

The Beecher Hearth Safety District responded to the church situated within the 1400-block of W. Church Highway simply after 1:30 p.m. for an unrelated name. Whereas the EMS crew was treating a affected person, they have been alerted to a fireplace on the church, officers stated.

The EMS crew helped evacuate the church as heavy smoke and hearth billowed out of the north finish of the church by the steeple.

Almost three dozen companies with a complete of 10 engine firms, 5 vans with tower ladders, 12 tenders, 5 ambulances and 11 chief officers assisted a “defensive operation” of the fireplace, based on hearth officers.

The closest hearth hydrant was roughly a mile away, officers stated, prompting a rural water provide operation, the place water wanted to be shuttled to the situation.

Officers stated roughly 91,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fireplace.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital for warmth exhaustion and three others have been handled and launched on the scene, based on Hearth Chief Joseph Falaschetti.

The fireplace division stated the constructing, which dates again to 1865, is a complete loss. The reason for the fireplace is underneath investigation.
