Fire, nightclub clashes kill 19 people in Indonesia: police

JAKARTA, INDONESIA – A nightclub in the Indonesian province of West Papua caught fire after two groups clashed inside the building and killed 19 people, officials said Tuesday.

Adam Erwindi, a spokesman for West Papua Police, said on Metro TV one of the people died on Monday night at the club in the city of Sorong and 18 bodies were found following the fire.

Police are still investigating what caused the clash and whether the fire was ignited or accidental.

Erwindi added that along with the investigation, police officers met with the protagonists of the two groups to come up with more favorable terms. Indonesian police and military officers took control of the area.
