For a Foley couple, it was a real-life nightmare, a stray bullet exploding through her front door, before the coils buried in a pillow.
Police do not know who shot and why. It’s all a great mystery.
According to Foley police, they say the bullet came from a 17-caliber rifle and it was fired between 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday on 12th Street near County 65th Street.
The owner said she was sitting in the living room with her boyfriend.
The chair he used to sit on was where the bullet hit and if he was sitting there the bullet might have hit him.
“Unfortunately, I was just scared, like I had a target on my back,” she said. “When a bullet goes through your front door, that’s all you can think about.”
She said that bullet went pretty far throughout her house.
Initially, the bullet went through her front door. It then darted off the floor and even through her dog’s kennel before hitting the pillow.
“Sounds funny, we thought it was a ghost that slammed our dog’s kennel,” she said. “Thirty minutes later I switched areas and when I looked down I pulled something out of my pillow and it happened to be a bullet.”
She said she was just thankful that no one was sitting there when it passed.
“Me and my boyfriend kept saying it was his chair and luckily he didn’t happen to be sitting there that night,” she said. “It will hit the head, the neck, one or the other in that area.”
She said she had lived in the neighborhood outside of District 12 for over a decade and had never experienced anything like this.
The homeowner did not want to be identified but wanted to raise awareness of the issue because of how quickly this could end badly.
“If you have a gun, I mean you just have to learn how to use your gun,” she said. “That could easily be someone’s life you took, just because you were stupid.”
