Ford GT LM Edition: Super car launches with a special model


Is the second generation Ford GT – third generation if you count the original GT40 – going to the end of the road, it is signing with homage to its racial heritage.

Revealed tonight, just 20 copies of the Ford GT LM Edition will be produced, with the final vehicle due to roll out at Multimatic’s factory outside Toronto, Canada later this year.

The changes to the car are mostly aesthetic, with the LM version having similar features 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 engine like the regular GT.

This Ecoboost factory makes 492kW and 745NmAll is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The car’s impressive output figures are advertised by a pair of new 3D printed titanium exhaust pipes, which have a tornado motif on the inside.

3D printing is also used for the GT LM badge on the rear of the car, but the highlight of 3D printing is the numbered dashboard insert, which is made from an alloy derived from the crankshaft of a Ford GT race car. ranked third in its class in the 2016 edition of 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Finished in Liquid Silver paint, the GT LM Edition is available in either red or blue for exposed carbon fiber details, including the front splitter, side sills, door sills, engine bay vents, rack wing mirror support and rear diffuser.

The 20-inch gloss carbon fiber wheels have an inner tank accented in either red or blue, but the Brembo brake calipers are only available in gloss black.

The red and blue colors are said to honor the beauty of the cars that finished first, third and fourth in the LMGTE Pro 24 Hours of Le Mans 2016.

As for the cabin, buyers can once again choose between blue or red for the faux suede trim that covers the driver’s bucket seat, while the passenger’s bucket seat is finished in black with stitching. Blue or red contrast stitching.

Carbon fiber features on the center console, air vents and bottom of the A-pillars, while the dashboard is finished in a combination of leather and faux suede.

The LM version does not mark the end of the current GT line, but is the last limited edition to be separated from the supercar, which includes:

  • Heritage Editions of Gulf Livery for 1968 and 1969 racing cars
  • Daytona Heritage Edition for cars that finished 1-2-3-5 in the 1966 race
