Ford recalls more F-150s because of transmission shaft problem

In December 2021, Ford recalls 184,698 F-150 pickup trucks from 2021 and 2022 models about an issue that could cause the drive shaft to break. It’s possible that the underbody noise and heat insulators aren’t firmly attached to the bodywork, so they “could loosen and come into contact with the aluminum drive shaft”, causing the drive shaft to lead to fractures. That population is limited to Crew Cab all-wheel drive models with a 145-inch wheelbase, and only models equipped with equipment group 302A or higher that add the problematic soundproofing package. It turned out that more F-150s were affected. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Ford is recalling 58,203 other pickup trucks including “not designed or intended to be made” with insulators.

Seems like a small amount truck not optional with related packages that are already equipped with insulation, extending the included equipment to variants such as the two-wheel drive Normal Cabin. Ford told Cars.com it believes that only 3% of this new recall population is affected. The mentioned examples have been built at the Dearborn Truck plant between January 22, 2020 and November 2, 2021, and at the Kansas City plant between June 1, 2020 and October 15, 2021.

In the first recall notice, Ford indicates a loose or hanging insulator problem indicator, or a rattling, rattling, or rattling noise from underneath the vehicle. It is also possible to see the score if the truck is affected. Ford said it is not yet aware of any accidents or injuries as a result of the issue.

Ford will begin notifying owners September 5, 2022. The fix is a trip to seller where a technology will check and fix drive shaft, if necessary. Although this population was not constructed with an insulator, nothing was reported about the removal of the insulator. They will be mounted properly.
