Ford researches highway tire options for Ranger Raptor

Ford prepares to study the option of adding optional highway off-road tires to the newly launched model Ford Ranger Raptor in an attempt to provide more traction in wet conditions.

Ford’s current deals on the Ranger Raptor will carry over to the next generation when it launches in Australia in July. The 285mm wide BG Goodrich KO2 tires are designed primarily for off-road use and can withstand traction in wet conditions compared to a road-focused tire.

Speaking to the media at a recent Ford Ranger Raptor prototype event, Ford Vehicle Program Manager for Icons and Ford Performance, Ali Jammoul, said that’s something the brand will look into after receiving feedback on the vehicle’s grip in wet conditions.

“I like that response. Because I haven’t thought about it yet, to be honest with you… I like what you’re saying. Yes. Shall we look at it? Sure,” Jammoul said.

“And this will be to optimize the car… What is the Raptor and what do you see here [in reference to off-road driving during the Raptor prototype event] is that when you take it on the road, it needs to be a cruiser. ”

“It’s perfect with [Raptor DNA], because when you’re going to go on the road, it will be a monster, it will eat that terrain, like you wouldn’t believe. It’s correct? When you take it on the road, it’s a comfortable ride, you know, but so it affects your thinking right away. [about traction in the wet]. ”

Highway tires will be a welcome addition for Ranger Raptor drivers who spend more time on the highway than off the track. A hybrid option, such as less aggressive all-terrain tires could make the cut.
