Former Dallas Mavericks GM Donnie Nelson Sues; Words came under fire for reporting sexual misconduct against grandson – CBS Dallas/Fort Worth
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Former Dallas Mavericks General Manager Donnie Nelson is suing her former employer.
Don Van Natta Jr. of ESPN broke the story.
In a lawsuit filed in Dallas County on Thursday, March 17, Nelson alleges he was fired in retaliation for reporting Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Chief of Staff Jason Lutin, sexually harassed him. and sexually assaulted Nelson’s nephew during a job interview in 2020.
Nelson also claims Cuban offered him $52 million to withdraw the wrongful termination claim and sign a confidentiality statement.
Nelson was fired in June 2021 after serving as General Manager and President of Basketball Operations for 24 years.
Nelson, who is seeking damages for emotional distress, is asking a jury to hear his case.
In an email to CBS 11, Cuban denied the allegations:
“The application is full of lies and ridiculousness. The NBA has been and has been fully aware of our investigation of Mr. Nelson and his statements. They fully support our conclusion that the only person violating The Mavs and NBA policy was Mr. Nelson, and they fully support our decision to terminate Mr. Nelson’s contract. I can only guess that this is sour grapes and a way to try to repay us for firing him.”
