Former Giants wonder if Rodgers can handle NY media

Aaron Rodgers will be dealing with a much different media market now that he’s a member of the New York Jets, and two NFL legends with extensive experience in The Big Apple wonder if the star quarterback can handle it. or not.

Hall of Fame winger Michael Strahan, who has played for the New York Giants during his 15-year career, spoke about Rodgers during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that aired on Thursday. Strahan was asked if he thought Rodgers would be a good fit in New York, and he said he was skeptical of how the four-time MVP will co-exist with the media.

“I don’t know if Aaron Rodgers and the media (fit in),” Strahan said, via the New York Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel. “The media here are like guilty until proven innocent. They don’t like you – you have to make them like you and I think he’s gone into a dark retreat, so they’re like, ‘You know, this guy…’”

Strahan said he thought the media would be suspicious of Rodgers from the start, but they always find a way to criticize the players. He added that he wanted to see how Rodgers would be treated because the New York media were “tough” and “untouchable”.

Tiki Barber, one of Strahan’s former teammates at the Giants, made a similar comment in February. Former Pro Bowl running back said in an appearance on WFAN that Rodgers’ public criticism of NFL reporters could be a sign that the midfielder is too “sensitive” for a demanding media market like New York. Barber made comments after Rodgers’ rise blow up ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“As I was reading the full quote from Pat McAfee’s weekly appearance, talking about Schefter and Rapoport… it made me realize that if he’s so sensitive that it upsets people, the reporter, Opinionist, influencer — whatever — wants to talk about him, he’s going to have a hard time in New York,” Barber said. “I don’t know if I would want him in New York or if this is his reaction to things that don’t matter.”

Rodgers definitely has a chip on his shoulder. That made him one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, but Strahan and Barber made some good points.

Rodgers is frequently unhappy with the national media. Now he will have to deal with them and the New York market, which will require a lot of patience.
