Retired NFL Player Brett Favre is in the midst of a $6 million scandal affecting the state of Mississippi.

Details of the benefit program
Court documents filed in a Mississippi court on September 12 show Brett Favre received $1.1 million for gigs he never attended and $5 million for built a volleyball stadium at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), the university his daughter attended.
The documents also show that the organization “paid Favre $1,100,000 solely for the sake of “enrichment” for him,” the separate civil suit states.

However, evidence shows that MCEC explicitly paid Favre $1,100,000 to provide Favre with additional funds to use for the construction of the Volleyball Facility.

Misuse of funds discovered in the 2019 audit
In April 2020, Mississippi State Auditor Shad White share one Mississippi State Single Audit Report 2019expressed concern about fraud and mishandling of funds.
“Due to the inability to verify that any work was done to fulfill the contract and because the amount paid was unreasonable, the entire $1,100,000 payment paid during the financial year was not verified. 2018 is questionable,” White’s audit said.
White’s audit also said:
“When the lease from the USM Athletic Foundation was scrutinized, the auditors determined that the essence of the $5,000,000 payment to USM was a donation to the USM Athletic Foundation for the construction of the Center. Health, not rental property.
Brett Favre Money Claim
In 2021, Favre tweeted a series of thoughts denying these claims.

As of now, Brett Favre has not been charged with anything. But John Davis, the former executive director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services, has committed two federal charges “(wire fraud and committing theft related to programs that receive federal loans). and one count of theft related to federal money-receiving programs).” He will be sentenced on February 3, 2023.
