GQ: Did it victory in Hungary change your life? When you wake up the next morning, do you feel fundamentally different?
No. But I woke up and put on a pair of slippers [next to my bed] indicates “Winner” on them. No, that’s not true. That’s not true at all.
Did you sleep with the trophy?
Oh, yes. Well, I keep it in bed, and then I leave it overnight. But yes, I did. I think winning gives confidence in the fact that we’re working in the right direction. And I think that’s great, because there’s nothing more rewarding than working hard and seeing that it’s working.
How does it feel to see Formula 1 expand its reach into other cultural areas? Fashion is clearly a big thing. Does it feel like expectations have changed as you touch on various things as a public figure?
YES. I mean, it’s awesome. It really shows how good the sport is at the moment and how much excitement it brings to not only die hard fans but also to the general public. I can feel that when I go out to work or when I go to the supermarket at home or things like that, I see people recognize me, and ask to take pictures and things. I think, in general, Netflix has helped. There was a lot of interest from everyone, and that was amazing.
What is it like to see Berluti x Alpine Collection come together, and bring that window into the couture space?
Yes, that’s huge. It’s big because yesterday, they delivered me some clothes before an event we held last night. We took Some photos for social media. It’s a great brand, and it’s really classy. It’s not something I’m particularly an expert on, but sometimes you dress well, and I wear it to Berluti events, and it looks great.
Did you learn some of your own personal style tips from this experience?
YES. When some experts are helping you dress up, I guess it couldn’t be better. Actually next Saturday we’re having a… How do you call it? Designer. No. Stylist, stylist. Having a stylist will help me dress the way I want and all of that, that’s great.
Was that a natural move for you?
Well, every day we go to work on the lawn, we always dress the same. It should always be black jeans. Must be the shoes from the team’s kit. Wear the same t-shirt every time. So to dress differently and have the experience of professionals help you, it’s great because I haven’t experienced that before. It opens up a lot of possibilities and you discover things, which is great.
