Fox News Host Jesse Watters’ Dig at Joe Biden’s Hurricane Ian Response Falls Flat
Jesse Watters tried to do something insightful about President Joe Biden on Thursday about his response to Hurricane Ian but was left empty-handed after receiving objections not from a Democratic-leaning guest but former deputy chief of staff George W. Bush Karl Rove.
The Fox News host tried to give the impression that Biden was trying to pull his leg about delivering aid to hurricane-ravaged Florida, despite Governor Ron DeSantis speech he is “grateful” for help from the authorities, which he often criticizes. On Thursday, Biden approved federal aid to individuals in nine counties, that is, affected residents can be received up to $37,900 for home repairs and the same amount to cover lost personal property.
“Do you think if Ron DeSantis changed Florida’s name to ‘Ukraine,’ Joe Biden would give him federal aid faster?” Watters asked, echoing an argument often heard from his colleagues like Tucker Carlson, who asked? amount and frequency of aid to the war-torn country with Russia.
“Well, you know what? He did, and Governor DeSantis made this point: that the federal government… the state of Florida sent the initial request, they immediately responded and said yes,” Rove replied. “They made a request for something called personal support. And you heard the last governor reflect on that. The federal government immediately responded and said yes.”
Before Rove showed up, Watters tuned in to a live press conference where DeSantis once again expressed his appreciation for FEMA’s help. (After Hurricane Sandy devastated the New York/New Jersey area in 2013, then-Representative DeSantis opposed federal money for the cleanup effort, call it “put it in credit card psychology.”)
“So far, we have not seen politics when it comes to aid distribution. And let’s hope not,” Rove continued. “Let’s hope that the emergency officials in charge of the federal entity involved in the state keep the politics out of it. That’s what — in Republican and Democratic administrations — they’ve done in the past. Let’s hope that they continue to do that in the future. “
