WASHINGTON – French officers in Washington canceled a Friday night gala at their sprawling compound over frustration with the brand new safety partnership between the U.S., U.Ok. and Australia.
A French official confirmed to CNBC that the occasion, which was slated to commemorate the 240th anniversary of the Battle of the Capes, will not happen on the embassy in Washington.
“Different components of the celebration are nonetheless ongoing,” together with a wreath-laying ceremony in Annapolis, Maryland, the official mentioned. Two different occasions involving a French destroyer in Baltimore and a French submarine in Norfolk’s harbor haven’t been canceled.

The event comes after France expressed outrage over a newly minted trilateral partnership that, partly, ends a long-standing submarine contract between Australia and France and replaces it with a deal between the U.S. and U.Ok.
The U.S. and U.Ok. agreed Wednesday to help Canberra in buying nuclear-powered submarines, which is able to permit Australia’s navy to assist counter Chinese language nuclear-powered vessels within the area.
