French actress cuts her hair in solidarity with Iranian women

Dated: Modified:

A week after Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi urged artists to show support for protesters in Iran, French actress Juliette Binoche posted a video of herself and more than 50 performers. Another French actor cuts his hair in solidarity. Film critic Lisa Nesselson reminds us that French producers and distributors have invested in Iranian filmmakers for decades, such as Iranian-French graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi, whose autobiographical film “Persepolis” made in France.

We follow up with “The Woman King”, which tells the story of Agojie, an all-female group of warriors formed to defend the 19th century Dahomey Kingdom in what is now Benin.

Lisa also tells us about the Dardenne brothers’ latest film, about two young people applying for asylum in Belgium. We also get a glimpse of Leopold Legrand’s “Sixth Child,” about an illegal arrangement between a childless couple and a couple with too many children.

Additionally, on the fifth anniversary of the reveal that launched the #MeToo movement, we’ll be watching an upcoming film based on the investigation into the allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein.
