Carlos Sainz was the fastest in his second practice at the French GP
Carlos Sainz beat teammate Charles Leclerc in fastest time as Ferrari dominated Practice Two at the French GP to further revive their world championship.
Sainz made it 1:32,527 to overtake Leclerc by 0.1 seconds, with world champion leader Max Verstappen coming back remarkably in half a second of the Spaniard’s lead time, while his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez could only finish 10th.
The performance will give Ferrari confidence in extending their winning streak, with Leclerc’s win at the Austrian GP two weeks ago closing Verstappen’s world championship gap to 38 points.
However, Sainz’s success will be remedied by earlier confirmation on Friday that he will take the 10-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race, after receiving a new Control Electron following an incident. last engine failure in Austria.
Mercedes, who welcomed back Lewis Hamilton after the seven-time world champion sat out Friday’s opening session, failed to live up to the high expectations many had for them over the weekend. Hamilton was fifth, teammate George Russell was fourth because they couldn’t keep up with Ferrari’s pace.
