LE SUEUR COUNTY, Minn. (WCCO) – Smoke rises from a hole in the ground in rural Lexington Township, near Le Center in Le Sueur County.
It was all that remained of a house that exploded on Friday night. The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office said the crew arrived around 11:30 p.m. to a house that had collapsed due to the fire. They said the owner was away and a woman was looking after the house, taking care of the dogs. Her body was found in the basement.

Friends identified her as Kailey Mach, 20 years old. They say she went to Tri-City Union High School in Montgomery and is attending the University of Augsburg, where she hopes to receive her primary education.
“She always talks about how she is going to change the world by educating the next generation,” says her friend Shelby. “She doesn’t care if she’s having a bad day, if you tell her you’re upset, she won’t rest until she makes you smile.”
She said Kailey is proud of her Czech heritage and loves to dance, and she is the type of person you always want to bring people together.
As investigators work to determine the cause of the explosion, the community mourns the loss of a young woman, taken away too soon.
Augsburg University officials released this statement on Sunday: “The Augsburg University community is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Kailey this weekend. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, professors, classmates, and all those close to her.”
The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Police Office are working together to determine the cause of the explosion.
