Omaha police said Regina Bright, 35, was trying to turn left around 11 p.m. Saturday night near the 42nd and Grover when 21-year-old Jonathan McDougald slammed into her. Officers said he was speeding. Morning death at the scene.

Yolanda Delts, Precious Clark and Nina Guerrero said they wouldn’t know each other without Gina Bright.

“We didn’t really have a lot of families so we built that together,” Delts said.

Now, the glue that holds them together is gone.

“Anyone she meets will never have a bad thing to say about her. She’ll just brighten up the room she’s got this gorgeous, little dimpled smile,” Guerrero said.

Through laughter, and even tears, the three remember their friend all the way to sleep in adolescence. But also in her role as a mother.

Bright left behind a daughter and son.

“Everybody is a mom but some people take their motherhood more seriously than others and she is one of those people. “Mother is her most important role, her top job,” Clark said.

Her children, a high school freshman and 8th grader are asking these women to help them bury their mother. The women said Bright’s children understood cremation and burial and had told them they wanted a place where they could visit their mother.

ONE GoFundMe will help them achieve that goal and the remaining money will build confidence in her children.

“We want to make sure we get her home the right way. This is the last thing we can do for her as her friend and so we wanted to make sure we got it right,” Delts said.

The group also plans to hold a light candles to pray at 42nd and Grover Streets on Tuesday nights at 6:00 to raise funds, but also awareness. They asked everyone to wear teal and said that meals would be available for purchase.

“Slow down, take your time, look around you. You never know whose life you will take. But Gina wouldn’t want us to do this. She is a smiley person. Happy,” Clark said.
